Whirlwind Trip to Vegas

Highlights from our Weekend Get-Away

1) I had grand visions of leaving our house as early as 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.
2) Reality set in after I didn't go to sleep til after 2:00 a.m. that we would not be leaving at 4, but instead left at about 6:30 a.m.
3) It takes a really, really, long time just to drive from one end of the valley to the other - Gold Canyon to Surprise is a long hall!
4) Lilly did NOT get carsick - woohoo, no stopping along the road to empty any buckets and no husband dry-heaving over the awful smells coming from the backseat - it was a rather pleasant long drive.
5) The hotel we stayed at was pretty nice.

6) We spent over 5 hours in and around the pool on Sat. afternoon and still had to practically drag the girls out of the water.

7) After 5 hours in the hot sun we all walked away with tans and no sunburns - yay for remembering to douse ourselves and the kids with lots of sunscreen. Others that were also there for Troy's Graduation were not so lucky - OUCH!
8) Do not try to wake a sleeping 2 year old who zonks out at 6:30 p.m., so you can go grab some dinner after she has been riding in a car for more than 5 hours and then in a pool for 5 hours all in the same day. She will NOT be pleasant - she will scream for any and for no reason at all. Dinnertime will not be fun at all and people will stare or should I say glare at you.

9) The Sunset Station hotel has nice comfy beds - I hit the pillow and didn't wake til little voices were up and rearing to go at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. I could've slept for at least 2 more hours.
10) There is not much for kids to do at a hotel/casino in Vegas between the hours of 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday.
11) The girls loved getting to go to see where Lydia & Jonah live. Ally was mad after we got home though, because she never got to see where Lydia sleeps. That is always a good excuse to have to go back soon, right?

12) A LOT of people gamble and a lot of people smoke. Ewww....to both of those things.
13) There are always opportunities to teach our children...sometimes we get slammed in the face with those opportunities - by the way, have you seen some of the billboard signs along the roads in Vegas? 8 and 5 year old kids can read them - scary!
14) The M&M store is always a big hit.
15) I have never been to a Medical School Graduation. It was interesting - not any longer than most college graduations, but long for antsy little girls.

15) We are all so proud of our Uncle Troy, who is a cousin of mine that I grew up with in Winslow. He graduated from Medical School and will start his residency next month. Congrats again, Dr. Troy Hancock.

16) Did I mention it was a long drive home too. Thank goodness for an iPod with TV shows downloaded on it. We were blessed with safe travel and I did like the one-on-one time that Brian and I had on the way home to just talk uninterrupted while the girls were all crashed in the back seat. That just doesn't happen that often these days.
17) I'm so glad we were able to be there to show our love and support to Troy and Jessica. They are both amazing people with the biggest, kindest hearts. I would do a weekend like this again in a heartbeat....and we probably will, just not anytime real soon!
