Labor Day Traditions!

We spent Labor Day weekend at Brian's parents house again this year! I can't remember exactly how many years we've been doing that now, but I guess you could now say it is tradition for us to go there! Brian's sister Stephanie and her husband Aaron and their 2 girls came also. We actually had a family birthday party on Saturday for our niece Alissa who turned 3 last week. Our girls loved being able to help her celebrate her birthday and of course just be there to play with their cousins and grandparents! Our other little niece Clara is now about 6 months old and is as adorable as ever! It was fun to get to hold her and play with her! Ally was so happy to see her and got so excited when Clara would smile or laugh at her! She loves all babies, the real or the fake kind! ;)

My in-laws live full time in a place where most people only have 2nd homes. The whole place was buzzing with people like us escaping the valley heat and heading up to cooler temps. and pine trees. It was just a very relaxing weekend with no agenda whatsoever! The kids love to swing in the various swings that their Papa has hung for them. There is a regular porch swing, a tire swing, and then a new wooden swing with chains hung from a huge metal bar tied to some trees, and I can't forget the hammock too! All the swinging kept them pretty occupied! they also were able to make some friends with some little girls who were visiting at the house next door. Brian's mom wanted to do a craft, so she had the girls gather pine cones to make bird feeders with birdseed and crisco (?) and then they hung them in the trees. She also set up a camp tent on the front deck. They spent a few hours in there eating cookies, dancing around, and telling each other spooky stories while it rained outside. So, we also made some yummy homemade ice cream and ate lots of other great food! What else? Oh, we were able to go on Saturday afternoon to see some of our good friends from Winslow who were camping nearby and visit with them and see their kiddos too!

I grew up going to a family reunion where we camped out every Labor Day from the time I was born until my family moved to Kansas when I was 15 years old. I always loved those reunions and loved being in the forest, taking walks, playing with cousins and just making fun memories! I am glad that we are able to start new traditions for our girls! While I do miss the Labor Days from my youth, it is nice now to not have to sleep in a tent without a shower for a few days! Now we have all the fun of camping, but have all the luxuries of home plus some! All in all the weekend was a great time and I feel so blessed to have married into such a wonderful, fun-loving family! I always thought that Labor Day was sort of the end-of-summer party! Of course it is still so stinkin hot here and summer really isn't officially over just yet, but still I unofficially start celebrating Fall and I look forward to all the festivities!
